Politics is a topic that can really get people wound up. As you've probably gathered from our occasional political cartoons, we like to lighten the mood every now and then and today is one of those days.
So, several hours of work and thousands of pieces later... I'd like to present our "Lego in Chief", President "Lego Obama"!
What you're looking at is a 30 inch by 30 inch, 4 color portrait of President Barack Obama... using Lego bricks!
close up view of the "leg-O-bama"
When I started the project for some reason I didn't think 30"x30" would be that big but once I started putting it together I realized I had underestimated it a bit. Here's a shot of me holding the finished project.
Probably as close to meeting Obama as I'll get
So there you have it! The plan was originally to do one of each candidates in the 2008 election as well as their running mates but after seeing this one, I'm not sure my wife is going to want 4 big portraits and tens of thousands of Lego pieces cluttering up the house.

“The plan was originally to do one of each candidate and their running mates but after seeing this one, I’m not sure my wife is going to want 4 big portraits and tens of thousands of Lego pieces cluttering up the house”
You’re darn right I don’t!
Love you!
Is there something ironic about using white lego tiles for Obama’s face?
Steve
I’m a little near-sighted, can you make Duplo one next?
Wow…that’s 20hrs of your life that you will never get back.
McCain would be easy. White on White.
Wow, that is incredible!!!!! You should offer it up to the campaign or something! Then you’d be free to do Joe Biden’s likeness and your wife wouldn’t get mad at all the portraits hanging around the house:)
make one 4 hill-dog!
Very nice…looking forward to the Palin one.
If your wife doesn’t want them hanging around, you should sell them. Wives seem to like that money stuff.
LOL To your wife posting.
Also thats amazing, who knows maybe send a copy to the Dem team and they might arrange something.
I’d be flattered.
You must have been really bored xD It looks awesome, though.
AWESOME!
Impressive work, I wonder how small you could scale them to be a more reasonable size and still have good visual quality.
thats awesome
i don’t know whats better, you making such a cool pic or that your wife is geeky enough to read and comment
lucky you.
LOL!
That’s awesome that your wife just shot you a ribbing! Great work by the way, nice choice in the colors.
You could always put them on Ebay…
Nice work my friend, I have to agree with your wife…that would take up much space, my wife would kill me.
Do Alf
That is awesome.
let him do mccain, and then whoever loses the election should be dismantled. with a sledgehammer.
You might as well finish the winning ticket, finish with Joe Biden.
After all, after Nov 5, Palin will go back to her corruption in Alaska, and McCain will be working at a Home Depot somewhere cutting keys for people.
Dedication!
bury. Make that 3 dimensional and i’ll be impressed
Obama is the only picture that matters, republican puppets aren’t worth the time! Great Job man, from canada eh.
I had to take down the poll to try and lighten the load on the server. I’ll post it back up as soon as the site is stable again.
Thanks everyone for the kind words!
Place the picture on the wall, put flowers all around the picture, and place lighted candles under it. There it is! Your alter to the great messiah Obama! Come to give hope to the world! Imagine if you could of spent your time more wisely like, uh, getting a job!
Nice work! You should be able to give it to him at the inauguration.
I saw one done with marshmallow peeps at Easter. Obama looks better in b&w than pink and blue. The resolution was pretty coarse too.
Well done!
place some candles around it, and fall on your knees
That’s great. I’ve been wanting to do a lego project like this for years. Where did you acquire all the lego pieces? I’ve looked online and I’ve never found a great source for basic lego pieces.
Wow that is cool! You have combined 2 of my favorite things: Barack Obama and Legos. Kudos!
He’s a lot less of a threat to my tax cuts as long as he’s a poster
nice work my good sir
(vote for mccain!)
Would have been cool to see you put that together, sorta a time lapsed video of you building it – could put it on youtube – instant hit.
@Television Spy – next one I do I’ll take a few more pictures if not record the whole process.
epic win 0.0
Take requests? Do one of Palin with backdrop of Russia.

Think of it like that Ebony and Ivory thing by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. “Side by side on my piano keyboard.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sssqBjaTzOU
nicely done!
nice work.
why on earth do the republican uber-trolls always assume creative people don’t have jobs! how on earth can we afford all those “lattes” they accuse us of living on? not to mention thousands of legos.
they’re just mad that you’re passionate about something besides the cause du jour of their professional resentment brigade i guess.

……It’s incredibly sad that some people seem to think creating art is wasting time or something one does out of boredom.
Kudos to the lego artist!
cool
OMG! – That’s cool! Good work. I’ll bet that thing is heavy.
nice how did you have the time to sit still and just do that that,s one thing i can’t do is sit still
